5Works well for a Kwik set powerlock
By CA Longfellow
At first I bought the Schlage Zwave. It came with a 12 month free usage subscription, but no power deadbolt. I sent it back.

It was also half the price of my vera 3 and kwik set deadbolt combo. In the long run, this set up will be a lot cheaper. Plus, you get remote unlock and lock capabilities, which I have used a lot already. I put the set up at my business, and have set employee codes up, with email triggers as to when they come and go. Its nice to be at home, and know exactly when your employee is leaving. I will be adding cameras to it down the road.

I would just immediately call tech support, and have them set it up. It is still complicated, and the tech support set it up for me using screen sharing in about 45 minutes. They do have thick accents, but the job was done quickly, and most of it was updating the software. I give the tech support five stars, because it worked, and no problems yet.

Although this purchase of the vera 3 was overkill, I am the kind of person who will pay a little more for no worries or issues in the future. The fact that I didn't waste a day setting this thing up has already paid for itself. The other funny thing is that I asked one of my employees what time he left last night, and he told me six. The text message said 5:44. This system will pay for itself in employee honesty. Another cool time I used it was just to unlock the door for a client who needed to drop something off. He called, I unlocked using the "SQ remote HD" iPhone app, and he was able to put it inside. When he pressed the lock button on the Kwik set lock, I received an instant text saying he had locked the door. Keep in mind my business is small and closely connected to word of mouth and the community, so I am comfortable in giving this trust.

Personally, I wouldn't put this on my home at this stage in life, (I'm not that techie) but for a small business this setup is amazing!!!

4Very nice, works as advertised..so far
By Jaypup
I've had this for about 2 weeks now and added multiple devices to it. A few G/E light switches, some Aeon door sensors and some Kwikset dead bolts and a thermostat. Each device works flawlessly and was not difficult to setup. The iPhone app is a little over priced in my opinion but it works great. In fact the only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is the fact that the GUI interface for the MiCasa is somewhat slow and can timeout. So you have to hit refresh on your browser on occasion.

Scene setup is somewhat strange but after about 5 mins I figured it out. I've ordered more light switches and motion sensors so I'll update this when they arrive.

4Powerful for the price
By taber
Having had the Vera 3 for around three weeks now, I feel I've got a fairly good impression of it. It's quick and easy to setup and I've yet to have to reset the device itself for any issues. I've got 17 lights and 1 thermostat on it and plan on getting the remaining ~10 switches in my house on it as well. Setting up scenes and schedules has been a breeze, so now waking up and coming home from work are much more pleasant. There's a decent online community around the product which helps, I was able to find a nice free Android app to start scenes at the touch of the button remotely from my phone. I settled on this unit after shopping around and even trying an open source solution, to me this seemed to have the best price/performance ratio. What I consider the slickest feature is that for no monthly fee you can logon to this unit remotely from any web browser from the manufacturer's website.

I have to take away 1 star because I have found the software to be a bit buggy. Occasionally it seemed to be mismatching devices to rooms and was creating duplicate events and scenes without me asking for it to. Eventually I was able to sort it out by logging out of the unit entirely and signing back in. It seems sometimes what it caches on the browser gets out of sync with what's been saved to Vera, so if things ever start looking funky I recommend signing out/in immediately. Seeing as how I've been able to work around it and Vera gets firmware updates, I feel that's only worth a 1 start reduction.

One feature I didn't find documented is that this device does not have to replace your router. You can set it up to logon to your wireless network and work remotely, which is what I did as I'm not fond of the concept of using this as my router. It also allows you to put the device anywhere in your house within range of your wireless network.
